Don’t worry, you are not alone. It was estimated by CNBC that more than 95 percent of the weddings scheduled for 2020 were postponed due to COVID19. 

Luckily, over the past few months, events have started happening in a safe and socially-distanced manner. You still might have to wait to have the massive affair of your childhood dreams but bringing together people is happening and can happen for you.

First, you have to understand what the local governmental environment is before planning a wedding. In some places, like California or New York, there are strict closures on indoor meetings and large gatherings on a regular basis. Many states also have travel restrictions.

It’s extremely difficult to gauge what the future will look like with COVID-19, so you can look at the past history of any particular area to plan your wedding.

For instance, if you are in Alabama, Florida or Georgia, chances are there will be very few restrictions on gathering or travel because those states have remained largely open during the entire pandemic. 

If you are in Illinois, New Mexico or Michigan, there could be restrictions which pop up unexpectedly.

Of particular interest are any travel restriction, especially as you look to bring in any out-of-town guests. 

Just one example: In Chicago, if you come from one of 48 states, you must receive a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival or have a 10-day quarantine. These vary from state to state and often from county to county. 

For states with a history of restrictions, it is probably best to wait a while before finalizing the plans for your wedding. 

But throughout the United States, there are plenty of locations where you can start working toward tying the knot sooner rather than later.
